I.C. System Passes ISO 17799 Assessment
St. Paul, Minn. (February 1, 2005) – I.C. System announced
that it has passed an independent, third-party ISO 17799
assessment. The extensive review assures clients that I.C.
System follows industry-best practices concerning security and
data.
Agencies failing to properly protect consumer data submitted for
collections by publicly held companies could be subjecting those
companies to varying degrees of liability, based on the
Sarbanes-Oxley ruling. Additionally, agencies not following
industry-best practices may bring unwanted scrutiny to
financial-institution clients under the Gramm-Leach Bliley Act
and to healthcare clients under the Healthcare Insurance
Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
“Passing the ISO 17799 assessment validates our ongoing efforts
to be the industry’s technology leader,” said John Erickson Jr.,
Sr. Vice President. “This latest success verifies that we always
handle client data in a secure manner; it’s safe during transfer
to and from us and while we utilize it for business purposes. We
view all assessments and audits as valuable tools for making
sure our security and data handling measures are the best in the
industry.”
The ISO 17799 assessment is comprised of 10 major sections, each
of which includes numerous objectives and requirements: Business
Continuity Planning, System Access Control, System Development &
Maintenance, Physical & Environmental Security, Compliance,
Personal Security, Security of Organization, Computer & Network
Management, Asset Classification & Control, and Security Policy.
